Welcome to Sunnyside

A Neighborhood to Plant Roots, With Room to Grow

Sunnyside is one of Denver’s classic Northeast neighborhoods where families have lovingly passed down homes from generation to generation. The deep roots planted here create a sense of belonging and grounded-ness you can feel as you pass along its tree-lined blocks and throughout the local businesses that also call it home.

Like Ernie’s Bar & Pizza, for example, where generations of family tradition live on in every slice. The current pizzeria located on 44th and Federal pays homage to the original, opened in 1948 by Ernie Capillupo, right here in the Sunnyside neighborhood—one of the few pizzerias in Denver to still make dough fresh every morning and hand-stretch it to order for guests every night.

El Jefe is another neighborhood favorite with specials like Tuesday Night $1 tacos and $5 marks—a deal that will certainly lure you in the door. However, it's their commitment to sustainability, locally sourced ingredients, and seasonal menu of inventive Mexican cuisine that keeps you coming back.

While technically, there aren’t any neighborhood grocers, Cheese+Provisions more than compensates with a curated selection of hard-to-find, small-batch cheeses, cured meats, olives, baguettes, wines, and more.

While food is definitely a perk to residents of Sunnyside, location is everything. Being adjacent to I-70 means shaving ten minutes or more off your commute in all directions, which is a big advantage when you’re headed west to the mountains. But getting downtown is just as easy, whether you’re in the car or on two wheels, with a dedicated bike lane running the length of 46th east to Inca Street where you can hit the bike path straight to downtown, avoiding all traffic.

And with two parks with full-sized lakes within a short two-mile radius, the opportunities for outdoor activity are plentiful. Not to mention the green space at Zuni and 51st Park which offers some of the best views in Denver, and a great place to entertain the next generation of happy Sunny-siders.
